HARAKIRI & KAMIKAZE are in English dictionaries
... and so is "Bonsai" :P seriously!!!

oh, I've found something interesting.
You see, despite the fact that both "kamikaze" and "bonsai" show up in both Oxford and Longman, Oxford doesn't seem to like the word "Harakiri".
On the other hand, "banzai" is only in Oxford and not in Longman.

I really thought one cannot live without the other. You should yell "BANZAI" and commit "HARAKIRI", right? What's wrong with you Longman? you think "Bonsai" is more important than "Banzai"!?

[Goodies] Olympus V-72 IC recorder

011.gif

yes, you can record voices without permissions
Something caught my attention today.

Is it legal to tape-record a conversation without the others' permission?

Appearance, there is no law forbidding you from doing so. There is an easy rule of thumb to remember.

If you are involved in the conversation, then you have the right to record the entire conversation including all parties without their permission as long as you are using a regular voice recording device (not some super spy gear from the USSR), i.e. even an i-pod would do the trick. This is for Canada.

Just as I thought Japan would be more strict with the whole personal privacy issue, I was wrong. There is no law against secretly recording conversations. Its the other things like wiretapping, or break-and-entry to someone's place in order to bug the device which are illegal.

Then again, it all come back to the argument just like taking photos in the public. We have the right to do it does not necessarily mean we should excise this right at the cost of someone's misery. So act according to your judgment and common sense, and not just by the rule. You can does not mean you should in some cases.

Why am I talking all these?

'cause I just got myself a shinning new IC recorder. :)
I just want to know my rights so someone claiming to be the book of criminal code itself won't just walk to me and BS on me.

I'll try to post some photos of this new toy when I get back home.
I would really want to try and record my conversation with the custom people in YVR this time if I am fortunate/unfortunate enough to line up for a real person instead of one of the new clearance machines.

It will make me a little more confident by knowing I am probably not breaking the law.

[I don't hold any responsibility for this entry. I might be wrong. This entry is more like a note-to-self entry than an informative one]
